BAJURA, JUNE 30

At least 51 families of Muktikot's Majhagaun are at high risk of landslides at Swamikartik Khapar Rural Municipality in Bajura.

The village had received cracks elsewhere due to the unseasonal rainfall just following the end of the monsoon last year. Lanka Bahadur BK, a local, said the village was at high risk of landslides with the onset of monsoon.

He said cracks were seen in the whole village and the villagers were living in fear that the village would collapse at any time. The locals stay at home only during the day. The villagers said they had gone to nearby Muktikot Basic Level School for shelter after rainfall started.

Satal BK said the landslides had occurred in the middle of the village last year. Most of the villagers are bound to reach the school premises to take shelter every night.

People have been living in poverty and facing acute food crisis in the remote village. The shortage of food has hit locals throughout the year. As many as 300 people from 51 families have been facing food crisis. The target group, including children, women, elderly, among others, are at high risk of food crisis. Information Officer Kuber Shahi said the villagers had rushed to the school group after it started raining. The locals said they had received no support from anyone even though the whole village was at high risk.
