KATHMANDU, OCTOBER 13

The Department of Prison Management has reported that 5,547 inmates who escaped during the Gen Z movement on September 8–9 remain at large across the country.

According to the department, a total of 9,008 fugitives have so far been recaptured, while efforts to locate the remaining inmates have been intensified following a high-level meeting chaired by the Home Minister.

The department has circulated the list of absconding prisoners to the Election Commission, security agencies, and key administrative offices, including immigration, land records, transport, passport, foreign employment, and labor departments. Details will also be published on the department's official website.

Public institutions have been directed to verify the identities of service seekers, and any fugitive found seeking public services will be detained. The department said search and arrest operations will now proceed in a more coordinated and effective manner.
