6 killed, 16 injured in Rupandehi bus accident

KATHMANDU/RUPANDEHI: Six persons died and 16 others were injured  in a bus accident in Devdaha of Rupandehi district along the East-West Highway on Sunday night.

Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP) Mahendra Khadka of the Area Police Office, Butwal, said the deceased have been identified as Kushal Sharma (22) of Taratal in Bardiya, Prakash Shahi (35) of Bhimdutta Municipality in Kanchanpur, Shanti Darjee (35) of Devdaha in Rupandehi and Churak Sah (32) of Bara district. Identity of two others is not yet to ascertained, he added.

The accident occurred when the bus (Na 4 Kha 6841), travelling on a high speed, heading to Nepalgunj from Narayanghat lost control and overturned in Ghodaha forest of Devdaha Municipality-10, police said.

Police also confirmed that a total of 43 passengers were on board the vehicle.

DSP  Khadka said four people died on the spot and two others succumbed to injuries while receiving treatment.

The critically injured people were sent to a hospital in Bharatpur for further treatment.
