60 yo grandfather held for repeatedly raping minor girl in Panchthar
PHIDIM: A sixty year old man has been arrested on charge of repeatedly raping his 13-year-old granddaughter in Yangbarak Rural Municipality-6 in Panchthar district, on Tuesday.
Acting on tip-off, a police team deployed from the area rescued the victim and arrested the perpetrator today.
Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP) at the District Police Office Bam Dev Gautam said "The victim was repeatedly raped by her grandfather since December 16."
The minor has been living with her grandparents ever since her mother tied the knot with another man as her father is in abroad for foreign employment for more than a decade, according to DSP Gautam.
Meanwhile, the victim is receiving medical treatment under doctors supervision at the District Hospital.
The suspect was presented before the Panchthar District Court today itself and remanded to custody for further investigation.
As per the Muluki Ain/Civil Code of Nepal, anyone found guilty of raping a minor under 10 years is liable to 10-15 years imprisonment, and at least 6-10 years jail sentence for raping a minor girl of 14 years or above but below 16 years.
With the rise in number of rape cases across nation, people from all walks of life have clamoured for stern actions against those found guilty of raping minors.
