Dhankuta, July 23

Around 66 per cent earthquake victims, who were listed as beneficiaries, did not get the third instalment of housing grant as they did not demolish their quake-damaged houses in Dhankuta.

As per statistics, only 34 per cent beneficiaries received the third instalment amount for construction of their houses.

Focal Person at District Project Implementation Unit, Dhankuta, Dadhiram Shrestha said the National Reconstruction Authority had directed the implementation unit not to offer the third instalment until the victims demolished their damaged houses. Following the directive, quake victims whose houses received minor damage have been deprived of the third instalment of housing grant.

As many as 2,799 families of seven local levels of the district are listed as beneficiaries. Among them, 962 families have received the third instalment for construction of their houses. Shrestha said as many as 1,837 beneficiaries had yet to build their houses.
