Dang, May 21:
General secretary of the CPN-UML, Madhav Kumar Nepal, has said that the movement launched by the seven-party alliance would not fizzle out without restoring ‘real democracy’ in the country. Speaking at a press meet organised by FNJ-Dang in Ghorahi today, Nepal said: “The alliance will not agree and sign a treaty until it achieves its aim.” Nepal blamed the government of using its first 100 days in power to inflict more pain on the people and to increase instability. Saying that only an accountable government could address the people’s problem in the real sense, he said, “Public can never support those who do everything to end democracy and then brag about salvaging it.” Nepal said unclear issues regarding the movement would be solved when the movement gains momentum. Mentioning that the seven parties were standing on a common ground, Nepal said, “The alliance has drafted a policy for the restoration of the House of Representatives for responsible government and to discuss the possibility of a constituent assembly to resolve the Maoist problem.” Nepal said that people cannot trust either the monarch or the Maoists because both were extremists. “The people has not liked the Maoists’ fascist and the King’s authoritarian activities.” Ruling out the possibility of talks and agreement with the King, the UML general secretary said the parties were ready to go for a constituent assembly if only the Maoists were ready to give up arms.
