A 78-year-old man from Doti has donated Rs 101,025 from his social security allowance to support relief and rescue efforts for victims of the Bhotekoshi flood in Rasuwa.
Gopal Thapa of Bharikot, Adarsha Rural Municipality-2, handed over a cheque for the amount to Doti Chief District Officer Kalpana Ghimire Nepal on Friday. The donation will be deposited into the Prime Minister's Disaster Relief Fund.
Thapa said he was moved by the loss of lives and property caused by the devastating flood.
"Wherever a disaster strikes, it is Nepalis who suffer. The heavy losses in Rasuwa saddened me. I am happy to have been able to contribute so that relief reaches the victims," he said.
Thapa explained that he had donated money received as his senior citizens' allowance, stressing the importance of citizen support alongside government relief efforts.
Receiving the cheque, CDO Ghimire Nepal thanked Thapa, saying contributions from citizens would help make relief and rescue operations more effective.
Locals said Thapa has long been active in social work. A former vice-chairman of Kalika Village Development Committee, he is known for community service. His wife, Parvati Thapa, serves as a female community health volunteer.
Local resident Devilal Raute described Thapa's contribution as inspiring, noting it reflected humanitarian service during a national disaster.
