KATHMANDU, MARCH 27

In an extraordinary display of determination and physical endurance, 80-year-old VV Sundaram, a US national based in Chennai, has successfully trekked to Everest Base Camp, defying age and inspiring adventurers worldwide. Accompanied by family and friends, including his 15-year-old granddaughter and friends, Sundaram celebrated his milestone birthday at the iconic Himalayan site.

The remarkable journey, organized by ITrekEverest, saw Sundaram and his group navigate the challenging terrain with the support of expert guides, including Rick Nooft, Sonam Sherpa, and a dedicated team of Sherpas and porters. "It was a dream, a challenge, and a celebration of life," said Sundaram, who credited the expedition's success to meticulous planning and teamwork. "The mountains are majestic, but the human spirit is stronger!"

A lifelong fitness enthusiast, Sundaram is no stranger to endurance feats. He regularly embarks on 800+ kilometer bike rides across Colorado and Iowa, maintaining a rigorous daily workout routine. His professional accolades are equally impressive-he formerly served as President and CEO of IT giant Covansys and co-founded the Cleveland Thyagaraja Festival, the world's largest Indian classical music event.

Sundaram's trek was a family affair, with his son Mony Iyer, granddaughter Gitu Iyer, brother VV Ramesh, and close friends joining him for parts of the journey. "He proves that age is just a number," said Mony, while 76-year-old trek companion Ganesh Kumar praised Sundaram's "drive and determination."
