BARA: An unidentified gang last night shot dead Menaka Kumari Shah (19) of Barawliya-3 in the district after abducting her from her house.

Menaka was a teacher at Nepal Rastriya Primary School in Triveni. Her body was found in Itiyahi VDC this morning. Menaka’s father Rambabu said the gang had abducted her while she was asleep. The police are investigating the case.

Meanwhile, Bara chapter of Nepal Teachers’ Union (NTU) has condemned the incident. Issuing a press release, Devendra Giri, president of NTU, Bara, said they would be compelled to launch protest programmes if attacks on teachers were not stopped. Submitting a memorandum at the District Administration Office today, the NTU demanded action against the culprits and compensation to the next of kin of the deceased.

The district chapter of Human Rights Centre has also condemned the incident. Issuing a press statement,

the centre expressed its concern about the rise in such incidents.

Meanwhile, Tarai Mukti Morcha-Prithvi has owned up the murder and abduction.
