RAJBIRAJ: Locals of Portaha VDC burnt alive an unidentified man accused of trying to abduct a girl from the village.

Locals suspected the man of trying to abduct Mina Sardar, 11, daughter of Shivjee Sardar, as he was offering her chocolates in Portaha. The irate locals beat him up before setting him ablaze while he was still alive.

The unidentified man was in his mid-thirties, according to the police.

Eyewitnesses said two of his accomplices managed to escape.

The locals of Saptari are terrified as rumours of gangs abducting children and turning them into beggars by amputating their hands and legs or by gouging out their eyes have spread all over. "We have caught six persons suspected of being involved in such abduction cases, police said.
