Absconding Nepali murder convict held from Saudi Arabia

KATHMANDU: An absconding murder convict, who had been on the run for last 16 years, was brought to Nepal on Saturday after he was arrested from Saudi Arabia.

The arrestee has been identified as Narayan Adhikari (43) of Siddha VDC in Kaski district, police said.

Adhikari, who was using the alias of Jiwan Bahadur Adhikari, was arrested by the Saudi police following a notice issued on June 6, 2016 by the Central Investigation Bureau of Nepal Police.

Police said on November 01, 1998, Adhikari had killed Shiva Raj Thapa Suyal of his village with a sharp weapon that the former had carried, in a jungle, for having misbehaved with his wife.

He used to work as a military staffer and was posted a the Shree Singha Nath Batallion in Jhapa at the time of the incident.

It has been learned that he later left the army man's job, adopted a fake name and escaped to Saudi Arabia for foreign employment.

The Kaski District Court, however, had slapped him with a life imprisonment and the confiscation of his property on May 01, 2000.

The murder convict has been presented before the Kathmandu District Court to execute the sentence today and was sent to Central Jail in Sundhara for the same.
