KATHMANDU, OCTOBER 5

Deepak Silwal from Terhathum, who had been on a hunger strike at Shantibatika in Kathmandu demanding the arrangement of air ambulances to improve air rescue operations, ended his fast on Saturday. Silwal had been on hunger strike for a month.

He broke the fast after a five-point agreement was signed between Under-Secretary at the Ministry of Home Affairs Dil Kumar Tamang and Silwal.

At a program organized at the Home Ministry on Saturday, Silwal accepted a sip of juice offered by Home Minister Ramesh Lekhak to officially end his hunger strike.

On the occasion, Minister Lekhak affirmed the ministry's commitment to implementing the agreement, acknowledging the legitimacy and seriousness of the issues raised by Silwal. He committed to addressing Silwal's demands by amending the Air Rescue Procedure.

Minister Lekhak also praised Silwal's peaceful and democratic approach in pressing for his demands.

Similarly, Information Officer Tamang shared that the five-point agreement includes provisions for improving emergency air rescue operations by reviewing the current system, allocating necessary resources, and establishing a dedicated mechanism for air rescues.
