SIRAHA, OCTOBER 17
Locals staged a chakkajam on the East-West Highway in Siraha's Mirchaiya today. The strike was staged in protest of the inhuman treatment of a woman in police custody.
Police, in connection of the murder of Gubadi Devi Sah Haluwai, 62, of Rampurbirta, Ward No 1 of Mirchaiya Municipality, had arrested her daughter-inlaw Jiwachhi Devi Sah.
Protesters picketed the Area Police Office and staged protest, seeking action against police personnel involved in the inhuman treatment. Police are said to have fired dozens of rounds of tear gas to disperse the crowd.
Meanwhile, around six policemen are said to have been injured. According to the chief of Area Police Office, Mirchaiya, a policeman is undergoing treatment at a local health facility.
