KATHMANDU: Acting Chief Justice Deepak Raj Joshee has insisted on a coordinated role between the police and government attorneys to make the criminal justice system more effective.

The criminal justice administration is active in ensuring justice to victims, peace and security in the society, bringing guilty to book and controlling crime in the society; therefore, there is a special interest over roles of various organs active in the implementation of criminal law, according to Acting CJ Joshee.

Inaugurating the central training of government attorneys and annual work review programme organised by the Office of Attorney General here today, the Acting CJ said, "Attorneys are carrying out a role of experts in the enforcement of laws." He called on them to give attention to the implementation of the Civil Code, the Criminal Code, Penal Procedure Code, and the Criminal Offence Penalty Determination and Enforcement Act, 2074.

He was of the view that such laws are significant in view of controlling crime and ensuring justice to victims.

Likewise, Minister for Law, Justice and Parliamentary Affairs, Sher Bahadur Tamang said the government has set the target of amending all laws required for implementing the constitution within a year. He added that the rule of law is high on priority of the government.

"The government is thinking of assigning judicial officer in the local levels for making the works of the judicial committees at local levels effective in the context of these committees having already started their works," the Law Minister said, adding that the justice adjudication and the credibility of the judiciary should be raised even higher.

Attorney General Agni Prasad Kharel urged for paying attention to make the works of the government attorney offices efficient, uphold the criminal justice system and implement the various law codes.

Similarly, Inspector General of Police Sarbendra Khanal said the Nepal Police was committed to the enforcement of the Criminal Code, the Criminal Procedure Code and the Criminal Offence Penalty Determination and Enforcement Act, 2074.

Nepal Bar Association (NBA) president Sher Bahadur KC said the NBA is conducting various training programmes for the enforcement of different criminal and penal codes.

These codes are coming into force from August 17.
