2448 test positive via PCR tests, antigen tests confirm infection in 627 people

KATHMANDU, JANUARY 12

The national active Covid-19 caseload of Nepal climbed to 11,690 on Wednesday as 2,448 people tested positive for the infection in past 24 hours.

Nepal recorded 2,448 new coronavirus infections in last 24 hours, pushing the nationwide tally to 838,375 while the death toll reached to 11,609 as two fatalities were recorded on Wednesday.

Meanwhile, the total coronavirus recoveries stand at 815,076 with 278 discharges logged today.

As per the latest data provided by the health ministry, a total of 13,036 tests were conducted in the last 24 hours of which 9,051 were PCR tests while 3,985 were antigen tests. With this, a total of 4,957,288 PCR tests have been carried out till date.

Similarly, antigen tests have confirmed 627 positive cases in the past 24 hours. The total number of single-day infections from both the RT-PCR and antigen tests totals to 3,075.

Nepal's Covid-19 recovery rate stands at 97.2%, while the fatality rate stands at 1.4%.

The country's active Covid-19 case count currently is 11,690.

Currently, there are 218 individuals in various quarantine facilities across Nepal.

On Tuesday, Nepal had witnessed 1,981 cases of the respiratory infection while one person had succumbed to the disease during the same period.
