Addresses of 12 accused for gold smuggling yet to be ascertained

Biratnagar, September 6

Investigation of the 33kg smuggled gold and the murder of Sanam Shakya has hit a snag with police failing to ascertain the addresses of 12 of those implicated in the smuggling of 38 quintal gold.

Narbada Kharel Upreti, Maniram Chaulagain, Sunil Shrestha, Gita Shrestha, Krishna Gopal Agrawal, Hari Saran Khadka, Rohit Acharya, Madhav Acharya, Arjun Prasad Kharel, Shiva Kumar Gubhaju, Samir Adhikari and Sanjaya Adhikari are the accused whose addresses haven’t been confirmed.

Earlier, the government attorney’s office, while filing a chargesheet on May 2 against the aforementioned, had mentioned their addresses in the chargesheet. But lately when the court sent a notice to their addresses to be present at the court in a month’s time, it emerged that the addresses were fake and non-existent.

“After their addresses couldn’t be found, there are preparations to issue the notices through newspapers now,” said Morang District Court Registrar Nawaraj Dulal, adding that the court has ordered the government attorney’s office to send the details of the addresses of the accused whose addresses couldn’t be found.

Meanwhile, out of the 63 charge-sheeted in connection with the smuggling, 30 are still absconding.
