Agitating Kamaiyas call indefinite traffic strike
Bardiya, January 7:
Freed Kamaiyas Land Rights Struggle Committee and various organisations working for the freed bonded labours have called an indefinite traffic strike in the district from today.
“Since the government did not heed to our demands, we are forced to announce the protest programmes,” Jagatram Tharu, secretary of the struggle committee said, adding, “The agitation will continue until our demands are fulfilled.”
The first day of the strike halted the movements of vehicles plying to long and short routes from the district today, according to the District Police Office, Bardiya.
Kamaiyas are on agitation since the last two weeks demanding the formation of Freed Kamaiya Resettlement Commission, guarantee of health and employment and assurance of free education to their children.
