KATHMANDU, JANUARY 26

In a bid to foster international development for daring alpine athletes, the Alpine Sports Association - North America Nepal has been established in New York.

Led by the expertise of International Mountain Guide and Instructor (IFMGA), Nwang Nima Sherpa, the organization aims to nurture the participation of athletes and youth in alpine sports on a global scale. Additionally, it strives to promote adventurous mountain tourism both domestically and internationally, contributing to the growth of Nepal's tourism industry.

The executive team comprises social worker and guide Chhewang Sherpa as Vice President, seasoned media personnel Sanjok Acharya as General Secretary, Everesteer Mingma Tshering Sherpa as Secretary, and mountaineering instructor Gelbu Sherpa as Treasurer.

Among the members are world record holder mountaineer Chhurim Dolma, Everesteers Tashi Sherpa, Sonam Sherpa, Usha Bista, food guru Suresh Basnet, Canadian resident Dendi Sherpa, IFMGA guide Nima Tashi Sherpa, athlete Sonam Sherpa, and hotel entrepreneur Bikram Adhikari.

The organization's advisory committee include distinguished entrepreneur and philanthropist Gyelzen Nuru Sherpa, current President of Sherpa Keduk and respected philanthropist Temba Sherpa, luminaries from the hotel industry Roshan Balan, successful entrepreneur and philanthropist Pilot Pemba Tshering Sherpa, and world record holder mountaineer Pem Dorjee Sherpa.

Aligned with the goal of expanding mountain sports, the organization has garnered support from the Nepal Olympic Committee (NOC), the Sagarmatha Climbers Association, Nepal Climbing Sports Association (NCSA), and other relevant bodies.

With a focus on skiing, wall climbing, mountain biking, paragliding, rock climbing, and other alpine sports, the association aims to encourage participation from national and international athletes, fostering a culture of sportsmanship and adventure.
