POKHARA, FEBRUARY 8

Ambulance service installed with GPS is to be operated in Gandaki Province. The service is being operated through financial assistance of the province's Ministry of Health and Population and the technical support of Nepal Red Cross Society by setting up a dispatch centre.

The Health Directorate and Nepal Red Cross Society have signed an agreement in this regard.

Gandaki Province Red Cross Society President Surya Prasad Dhakal said the objective was to provide the service by developing pre-hospital health service system.

Two-hundred-and-sixteen ambulances, including those of government hospitals, private hospitals, Nepal Red Cross Society and other social organisations, are in operation in Gandaki province.

GPS will be installed in 150 ambulances this year and it will be installed in the remaining ambulances in the next fiscal year.

The Health Directorate will spend approximately Rs 3.8 million while Nepal Red Cross Society will spend Rs 6.2 million for this purpose.
