Amendment meaningless without addressing demands: Yadav

RAJBIRAJ: Federal Socialist Forum-Nepal Chairman Upendra Yadav said that the Constitution amendment would be meaningless until the demands put forth by Madhesi, Janajati and other marginalised groups were addressed.

He was speaking at a press conference organised by Press Forum here in the Saptari district headquarters on Wednesday.

Yadav,  who is also the coordinator of the Federal Alliance, said the Constitution should be amended by incorporating four issues— of provincial boundaries, recognition of dominant languages through a language commission, representation in the National Assembly on the basis of population and making the process of issuing citizenship more flexible.

He argued that the amendment was necessary to rectify the mistakes and weaknesses in Constitution in order to resolve Madhesi concerns.

Moreover, Yadav said that draft of seven provinces prepared by Nepali Congress, CPN-UML and CPN Maoist Centre was a conspiracy to remove the Madhesis from Madhes.

The FSF-Nepal chairman further said that provinces should be demarcated on the par with the 10-province model prepared by the erstwhile State Restructuring Commission that recommended for carving out two provinces in the Madhes.

Yadav further clarified that his party has not demanded citizenship for foreigners.
