ANNISU-R submits memo to ban old vehicles

Dhading, August 22

All Nepal National Independent Students’ Union (Revolutionary), a student alliance of CPN-Maoist Centre, today submitted a memo to the district administration urging a ban on the use of commuter buses and jeep that are in vulnerable condition, citing increasing number of accidents in the rural areas of Dhading.

The student wing of the party’s district chapter submitted the memo to Chief District Officer of Dhading Bishwo Prakash Subedi and reiterated the need to ban old vehicles from operating in rural areas. “Vehicle operators carry more passengers than capacity, operate without route permit and misbehave with passengers, but this kind of attitude needs to change,” reads the memo.

Dhading Transportation Entrepreneurs Association, Rural Transportation Cooperative Organisation, Joint Transportation, Dhading Microbus Entrepreneurs Association and Jeep Entrepreneurs Association, among others, have been operating their vehicles from Dhadingbesi to various rural sites in the district.

Joint Transportation and Jeep Entrepreneurs have been imposing rampant syndicate system and fleecing passengers in the district’s rural areas.

As decades-old vehicles ply along rural trails, commuting through the routes is perilous. “We had to draw the administration’s attention towards the issue,” said Madhav Chhatkuli, district chairperson of the student wing.
