Ilam, February 8

ANNISU (Revolutionary), a sister organisation of the Maoists, has ordered the closure of two schools from February 13.

One is the only Sanskrit school in the district. ANNISU-R union representative Bishwas said the Sanskrit Secondary School at Maipokhari and Green Valley Academy of the headquarters would be closed down.

He added the union had demanded that the name of the Sanskrit Secondary School be changed to Sanskriti (culture) Secondary School and that Sanskrit language be made optional with local languages as the main language for teaching.

He said the closure of the other school, Green Valley Academy, was prompted because it did not adhere to the contract between PABSON and the union.

The decision to close the schools was taken at the ANNISU-R convention in the district headquarters, said Bishwas. Damodar Bhattarai has been named coordinator of a new 11-member working committee.

Sabin Rai has been named vice-coordinator while Niru Khatiwada, Santosh Rai, Kamala Bhattarai, Dambar Lungeli, Subash Rai, Jamuna Gautam, Sushila Rai and Sabita Rai have been chosen as members.

One more member would be chosen later, said Bishwas. SP Kadaria, central member of the union, chaired the convention.

The ANNISU-R will begin its campaign against corrupt teachers soon.
