Another protester feared dead, Saptari remains tense

RAJBIRAJ: As police continued to use force to contain protests carried out by cadres of Madhesi parties in Saptari district today, one more protester was feared dead in the district headquarters, Rajbiraj, this afternoon.

Dilip Sah from Rajbiraj-1 was hit on his head by bullets at around 4:30 pm.

Seriously injured Sah was rushed to the Gajendra Narayan Singh Sagarmatha Zonal Hospital which was shut following the entry of police earlier this morning. He was then taken back to a private clinic.

Medical professionals, however, are yet to declare the status of his life.

Areas near the East-West Highway and the district headquarters remained tense in Saptari throughout the day as protesters affiliated to the Madhes-based parties defied curfew order imposed by the District Administration Office.

Sporadic clashes have been reported from various places in the district.

Earlier on Saturday night, two protesters were killed in police firing in the district.

Meanwhile, the United Democratic Madhesi Front condemned the fatal incident, claiming the government inhumanely suppressed the protests.

Issuing a press statement, the alliance of agitating Madhesi parties charged that the government was not serious for solving the issue through talks.

The UDMF said the government would be held responsible for any consequence of such incidents.

In the statement, the UDMF claimed its four cadres were killed in Saptari today.

Dozens were seriously injured while four of them were critical, according to the alliance.
