Anti-trafficking day observed

Kathmandu, September 5:

Second National Day Against Human Trafficking was celebrated today with the slogan “Vision of a new Nepal: Creation of a society free of human trafficking’’.

The Ministry of Women, Children and Social Welfare, national and international organisations and United Nations agencies observed the occasion.

Minister for General Administration Pampha Bhusal urged all to engage in the movement against human trafficking, a crime against humanity.

Shari Maya Tamang and Maiti Nepal were felicitated for their efforts to control human trafficking. At a programme organised in Bhrikuti Mandap, a feature film, produced to raise awareness on trafficking, was screened. A public hearing on human trafficking was also organised on the occasion.

Meanwhile, the Ministry of Women, Children and Social Welfare said it has established rehabilitation centres for victims of human trafficking in three places.

Secretary at the ministry Punya Prasad Neupane said the centres have been established in Kathmandu, Sindhuli and Kailali.
