APF tames Annapurna inferno

KATHMANDU: A special squad of the Armed Police Force (APF) has contained the wildfire raging across Bambu and Sinuwa areas in the Annapurna Base Camp, Kaski district, over the past week.

Kalika Battalion at Malepatan in Pokhara fought the fire in the major tourist destination since the efforts of local residents had failed to tackle the inferno. The 150-strong squad, under the command of DSP Dhan Bahadur Gaha Magar, was dispatched to the site on Wednesday evening.

Issuing a press statement, the APF said the wildfire was brought under control at 2:30 pm today. “Ten square kilometres of the forest faced the fire. The APF team has returned,” read the statement. Human casualty and damage of properties were not immediately reported.
