Armed gang attack on police post

Hetauda, January 19:

An armed gang attacked a temporary police post at Padampokhari village development committee in Makawanpur district last night.

Head constable Awadesh Kumar Jha, 40, a resident of Rautahat, was injured in the attack, police post in-charge and sub-inspector Bhim Bahadur Khapangi Magar said. Jha, who sustained sword injuries on the head and hands, was taken to Kathmandu for treatment, police said.

The gang had vandalized six houses before attacking the police post. “I, along with four other policemen, ran for cover when the gang of 20 launched an offensive on us,” Magar said.

“We were forced to flee as a temporary police post is not equipped with arms,” he said, adding, the assailants also took away Rs 11,000 along with mobile sets and clothes. Police teams, including one from Makawanpur District Police Office, reached the site after the incident.
