Kathmandu, January 8:

The National Human Rights Commission (NHRC) has expressed its concern over the Maoists’ increasing target on health and development workers and escalating rights violations in the country. The Maoists are not only targetting health workers and development workers but their activities such as mass abductions, killings and other human rights violations are on the rise, said NHRC chairman Nain Bahadur Khatri.

“Although the security forces are faring better in the human rights front, they are not adequately supporting the NHRC concerning disappeareance issues despite their repeated committments,” he told this daily. He expressed concern over the expiry of the January 13 deadline set by the government for the Maoists to come for talks. “The deadline is nearing and I don’t think the Maoists will come forward within the set deadline.”
