Authoritarianism has begun, says Deuba
Chitwan, April 16
Nepali Congress President Sher Bahadur Deuba today stated that authoritarianism had started as the incumbent government was functioning arbitrarily in the country.
Talking to mediapersons at Bharatpur airport, Deuba held that the government was functioning without consulting the opposition party on issues of national interest. He added that acting without consultation with the opposition was the beginning of authoritarianism in the country. “The government is doing everything arbitrarily. Authoritarianism has started in the country,” Deuba charged.
Deuba said that the government had failed to work as per the people’s aspiration. “However, the honeymoon period is yet to be over,” he added. When asked whether NC’s position in national politics had weakened, Deuba reasoned that it was natural for the NC to lose in the polls as the two communist parties had forged an alliance.
He said that his party would continue fighting for democratic norms and values in the country if anyone tried to weaken democracy.
