Kathmandu, May 9:

The Sancharika Samuha Nepal has decided to award Sancharika Equality Award (2062) to Om Astha Rai, the Dharan correspondent of Samay Weekly.

The award carries a purse of Rs 15,000, said a statement issued here on today.

Rai was awarded for his news article ‘Uterus thrown in of pregnancy’ dated March 17, 2005, which meets the sentiment of the award ‘gender equality and sensitivity’.

His article was selected from twenty news articles published in various newspapers and magazines between March 2005 to February 2006.

Bishnu Nisthuri, president of Federation of Nepalese Journalists, Yuba Raj Ghimire, editor of Samay Weekly and Yasoda Timilsina executive member of Sancharika Samuha were the judges.
