Back hostel eviction: TU

Kathmandu, August 9:

The Tribhuvan University (TU) Principal’s Office has appealed to students, student bodies, and guardians to support TU decision to evict overstaying boarders from the Kanti Hostel to admit eligible, regular students. Issuing a press release, the office stated the move against the admission of students in the hostel would promote the practice of overstaying in the hostel and deprive the rights of regular students to stay there. The office stated the eviction was announced as per the agreement reached between TU, FSU, and other student bodies.

The TU administration published a notice on August 4, stating it will admit students meeting all criteria to the hostel. Meanwhile, the eight student unions today condemned the August 5 attack by hooligans on student activists and forceful eviction of students from the hostel.

A relay hunger strike, launched yesterday by the students in front of the hostel against the eviction and the attack, continued today.
