Badis to hold sit-ins

Kathmandu, September 18:

The National Network of Women Human Rights Defender (NNWHRD) and National Badi Rights Struggle Committee (NBRSC) will organise sit-in protests in front of District Administration Offices in all 75 districts tomorrow.

Speaking at a press conference Jyoti Poudel, general secretary of Women Rehabilitation Centre (WOREC), today said: “The Badi women are organising the sit-in protests throughout the nation to pressurise the government to invite Badi community for talks to get a written agreement.”

Uma Devi Badi, president of NBRSC, said: “We held discussions with the Prime Minister yesterday. He assured us that all our demands would be met and also asked to stop the protest programmes.”

“Only assurance would not meet our demands. We want to sit for talks with the government; therefore, we are organising a series of protests,” said Badi.
