Baglung shut demanding status of missing boy

Baglung, June 8

The family of a boy, who had reportedly gone missing in his attempt to get away from police arrest on the charge of possessing illegal drugs, shut Baglung district headquarters today, demanding that the whereabouts of the boy be made public at the earliest.

Sunil Pun and his two other friends were caught, during a security check, with illegal drugs on Tuesday night while smuggling them in a taxi to Kushma from Baglung.

Police however managed to arrest two others — Dipendra Karki of Baglung and the driver Bhimsen Lama of Makawanpur— while Pun managed to escape. In his attempt to get away, Pun fled towards the Kaligandaki River.

After Pun disappeared while crossing the river, police launched a search for Pun on Tuesday night. The whereabouts of Pun is however yet to be traced.

As a result of the protest, transportation came to a halt while the market remained shut.

The victim’s family has demanded a fair investigation into the case at the earliest and Pun’s status.

The protesters said the protest would continue until their demands were met.

Deputy Superintendent of Police Baglung Anil Kumar Khadka said that the search for Pun continues. He also informed that investigations into the incident is under way.
