Rural municipality to provide scholarship for MBBS study

Hetauda, October 5

Bagmati Rural Municipality is planning to provide scholarships to students who wish to study Bachelor of Medicine and Bachelor of Surgery.

Rural municipality chair Sarkesh Ghalan said the scholarships would be provided from the current fiscal. He said that rural municipality would offer scholarship — full or partial — depending on students’ financial condition.

Chairman Ghalan said they introduced the scholarship scheme to enable capable students to pursue MBBS and encourage them to serve people in remote areas. According to the rural municipality officials, not a single student has completed MBBS from the rural municipality.

Health workers and doctors usually do not stay at the health posts in the rural municipality. Chair Ghalan said they had to take a decision to this effect to produce doctors, who would serve the rural municipality in the long-run.

The rural municipality has nine wards. According to administrative officer Raju Aryal at the rural municipality, 18 people, including four males, are studying technical course with rural municipality’s financial support.

Aryal said his office had funded them to study Junior Technical Assistant course as they pledged to assist farmers after the completion of their course.
