Bajhang earthquake destroys Bajura schools

KATHMANDU: At least two schools of Bajura district have sustained damages following the Bajhang earthquake of local magnitude 5.0 that struck the far-western Nepal on Wednesday.

Four rooms of a hostel of the Dasharath Higher Secondary School in Aantichaur-5 were completely destroyed, Nepal Police said.

Other 12 classrooms of the building have sustained minor damages.

The earthquake also induced damages to new and old buildings of the School.

Similarly, the Parbati Secondary School in Kailashmandu-9 of the same area has also sustained partial damage after the quake.

The earthquake that struck a location between Bhatekhola and Dhamena, north-east of Chainpur, as the epicentre at 2:55 pm yesterday.

It has been followed by at least 20 aftershocks, according to seismologist Chintan Timilsina at the Kathmandu-based National Seismological Centre.

"Minor aftershocks are likely to continue till tomorrow," he said, adding there was no need of panic as the main shock itself was as weak as magnitude 5.0.

One to two earthquakes are regular around the region every year, according to Timilsina.
