Bajura DDC mobilises child workers at planning function

BAJURA: While stakeholders in the district were discussing next steps to be taken to develop Bajura district including improving status of children here, two kids were serving tea to the guests there as child workers.

It was what happened at the pre-planning workshop organised by the District Development Office in the district headquarters, Martadi, on Friday.

Chief District Officer Bojraj Shrestha and Local Development Officer Prakash Raj Paudel among top officials of the district, political leaders, civil society representatives and journalists were present at the programme.

President of the NGO Federation Bajura Chapter, Kashi BK, condemned the incident saying the use of child labour was illegal and shameful.

Meanwhile, the DDC passed the buck on private eateries contracted for the workshop management for the use of child labour.

BK, however, commented that the government offices should not keep mum while such incidents occur just in front of their eyes.

Laws bar anyone from employing children under the age of 14 in any condition. The children seen at the function today were apparently younger than the bar.
