Bajura District Hospital facing landslide hazard
BAJURA: Bajura District Hospital has incurred damages and become vulnerable to bigger landslide after being affected by landslips caused by incessant rain.
Landslide hazard is a major concern at the hospital as mud debris brought down by the rain has started flowing from its upper and lower terrain, according to Dr Roop Chandra Bishwakarma, Chief at the District Hospital. Along with the hospital, District Police Office and District Prison are also at high risk of landslides.
Hospital’s newly built one-roomed building has been completely destroyed, informed Dr Bishwakarma. The lower terrain of the hospital is fragile and starts disintegrating as soon as it rains because a dozer was irresponsibly used during its construction, he added.
A wall bordering the hospital and Badimalika Boarding School, located uphill from the hospital, has been wrecked and has jeopardised the hospital, informed Ram Chandra Yadav, senior auxiliary health worker at District Health Office, Bajura. He further added that the hospital had not been able to operate smoothly since the flow of landslip debris from all sides surrounding the building, which has also brought interruptions to the emergency service.
This issue has also been forwarded to the provincial and central governments, informed the hospital. The landslips have also created hindrances for people while entering and exiting the hospital.
