BAJURA, JUNE 11

The life of a one-month old infant hangs in the balance as the family has not been able to gather the finnacial means required for medical treatment.

The infant has been diagnosed with Hydrocephalus, which is a medical condition in which a build-up of fluid is seen in the brain.

The excess fluid puts pressure on the brain, damaging it. If left untreated, hydrocephalus can be fatal.

The child was given birth by 19-year-old Srijana Pariyar--who hails from Jagannath Rural Municipality-4 in Bajura--following an operation at the district hospital.

The doctors at the hospital referred the child to Dadeldhura Hospital as excess fluid in the head was noted.

However, doctors at the Dadeldhura Hospital further referred the child to Kathmandu-based Kanti Children's Hospital. As the family lacked financial resources, they brought the infant back to Bajura Hospital, shared the father Gautam Pariyar.

Dr Dipendra Buda at the Bajura Hospital stated that the infant is currently on oxygen support.

"The medical circumstances of the infant calls for mandatory operational procedure, which we can barely manage. If the struggling infant is not taken to Kathmandu for treatment, there is a slick chance of survival," added Dr Buda.

The family of the infant is desperate as all efforts to assemble required expenses have failed, shared Srijana Pariyar.
