The country got a new and 47th prime minister today as the president, Ramchandra Paudel, appointed Balendra (Balen) Shah, the parliamentary party leader of the Rastriya Swatantra Party, today as per Article 76 (1) of the constitution of Nepal.

The President's Office, Sheetal Niwas, will host Shah's swearing-in ceremony this afternoon (12:34pm).

As per Article 76 (1) of the Constitution of Nepal, a single-party government has been formed for the first time after the promulgation of the Constitution of Nepal 2015.

The president's office has confirmed that the ceremony for the prime minister's oath of office and secrecy has been scheduled for the afternoon.

The ceremony will be attended by leaders from various political parties, representatives from diplomatic missions in Kathmandu, civil society members, and high-ranking government officials.

Notably, the prime minister and the ministers will both take the oath of office and secrecy today.

The Rastriya Swatantra Party (RSP) won 182 seats in the House of Representatives election that was held on March 5.

On Thursday, the party elected Shah as the parliamentary party leader.

In the House of Representatives election, Leader Shah won with 68,348 votes from Jhapa Constituency-5, defeating the four-time former prime minister KP Sharma Oli. On Thursday, Arjun Narsingh KC, the HoR's senior-most member, administered the oath of office and secrecy to the members of parliament.
