Ban on illegal trade and extraction of sand in Bhaktapur

BHAKTAPUR: The Metropolitan Police Range, Bhaktapur, has imposed a ban on illegal trade and extraction of sand, announcing strong actions to the violators.

Organising a meeting of the operators of sand depots in Metropolitan Police Range, Bhaktapur and Metropolitan Police Circle, Thimi on Friday, the police issued such directive by warning to shut the illegal trade of sand.

Such trades run without taking approval from the District Coordination Committee, along with the sand-loaded trucks from other districts mainly from Kavre without bill receipts and others run without being registered would be booked, the police said.

Superintendent of Police (SP) Himalaya Kumar Shrestha announced that the sand mines and depots would be closed adding that the police have already asked the operators of depots not to bring and trade the construction materials including soil and sand. Those evading taxes and running without receipt bills would be booked.

In the district, some illegally run sand mines are still operating their businesses.
