Nuwakot, August 30:

Life came to a halt in the district of Nuwakot today due to a bandh, which was called by students’ organisations to protest against the police firing on a protest rally on the premises of the Nuwakot Adarsha Multiple Campus yesterday. The Free students’ Union, the Nepal Students’ Union, the Nepal Students’ Union- Democratic, and All-Nepal National Free Students’ Union had called the bandh. Owing to the bandh, all the educational institutions, industrial and business houses remained closed today. Vehicular movement came to a halt. The business hubs of the district, including Trishuli and Devighat, looked deserted. The students burnt tyres and shouted slogans at the main squares today. Meanwhile, the Nuwakot Adarsha Multiple Campus administration, condemning the police for using force on the students, has demanded that the guilty punished. The Nuwakot chapter of the ANNFSU has also condemned the police action.
