Bandh effect more visible on sixth day

Birgunj, February 9:

Effect of the bandh was clearly visible in the Birgunj area on the sixth day of the strike called jointly by different political parties demanding action against Superintendent of Police Yogeshwor Romkhami.

All the markets, educational institutions, industries and transport services

in the Birgunj area were shut for the sixth consecutive day causing much problem to the general public.

CPN-UML, Rastriya Prajatantra Party, Nepal Sadbhawana Party, Madhesi Janaadhikar Forum and Tarai-Madhes Democratic Party have been staging the protest demanding an investigation into the incident that occurred on February 1 in Birgunj.

Meanwhile, CPN-UML Parsa district committee this morning staged a demonstration demanding action against SP Romkhami.

The police had allegedly killed three persons, including Manoj Kumar Kurmi of Hariharpurbirta village development committee of Parsa district claiming them to be criminals, president of Loktantrik Madhesi Organisation, Parsa district unit, Sundar Kumar Kurmi, said

in a press statement issued today.

He also condemned the police action and demanded compensation to the victim’s family and investigation into the case.
