Bandh supporters vandalise vehicles in east Tarai
Siraha, June 27:
Life in different parts of the Tarai remained crippled due to the bandh called by Maoists today. They have called an indefinite bandh in Siraha and Udayapur districts to protest the murder of the Young Communist League’s Saptari district in-charge, Govind Chaudhary.
YCL cadres vandalised two vehicles in Siraha for defying the bandh last night. They vandalised a jeep that was returning with a marriage party at Harinagar Tole of Bishnupur VDC and a motorcycle at Baraharamal-7.
The bandh affected life in Siraha and Lahan also. All long and short route vehicles stayed off the roads, while bazaars remained shut. Bandh supporters also stopped vehicles belonging to the press, the United Nations, and ambulances. Educational institutions were closed.
Passengers of over two dozen buses are stranded as the vehicles are stalled on the Siraha-Lahan Chauharwa road section.
Meanwhile, the bandh called by transport entrepreneurs disrupted transport services in Sunsari and Saptari districts. Bazaars, educational institutions and offices were closed. Bandh supporters vandalised six vehicles in Sunsari’s Jhumka, Inaruwa and Itahari. Transport entrepreneurs have called the bandh as a mark of protest against vandalism of vehicles during bandhs and agitations. Also today, government employees stopped working in Sarlahi. They have been agitating since Monday protesting the murder of a staff of the district development committee.
