Pre-monsoon rain destroys crops in Banepa

BANEPA: Various crops worth over Rs 20 million were destroyed during a pre-monsoon rainfall that lashed Banepa of Kavrepalanchok district a week ago.

According to the Banepa-based Agriculture Service Centre, paddy, maize and vegetable plantations incurred the highest loss due to the rainfall. The downpour damaged crops planted on 2,150 ropanis of land.

Likewise, crops planted on 1, 275 ropanis of land in Ugrachandi VDC were also damaged, Agriculture Service Centre Chief Surya Dev Yadav said.

"The crops have been buried and in many places the soil has been eroded," he said.

The flash floods washed away vegetables including cauliflowers, pumpkins and radishes among others.
