Bangladesh, US condole demise of ex-PM Koirala
KATHMANDU: Prime Minister of Bangladesh Sheikh Hasina has expressed her great shock and profound sorrow over the demise of Nepali Congress (NC) President and former Prime Minister Sushil Koirala.
In a message to the Nepali Congress Acting President Ram Chandra Poudel today, the Prime Minister of Bangladesh has conveyed deep condolences to the NC Acting President, the party and the people of Nepal on behalf of the Government and the people of Bangladesh and on her own.
She has said that Koirala steered the country at a critical period of its history when the nation was in the final stages of the process of Constitution writing and he also displayed steadfast leadership and great skill in guiding the country during the challenging period after the Great Earthquake of April 2015.
“His demise will be a loss not only for Nepal but also for South Asian region as a whole,” reads the message.
Meanwhile, the US Embassy in Kathmandu has also expressed sympathy and solidarity with the people of Nepal upon the demise of leader Koirala.
“We extend our sincere condolences to the family and friends of Koirala. Koirala was an advocate for democracy and achieved a huge milestone in Nepal's democratic transition with the promulgation of the new constitution,” reads the message issued from the US Embassy.
