KATHMANDU, DECEMBER 1
Banke district has recorded 39 new HIV infections in the first four months of the current fiscal year, according to the District Health Office (DHO).
Of the new cases, 27 are male and 12 female. Eight are aged above 39, while 31 fall within the 15–49 age group, said DHO HIV focal person Rabindra Shah.
Officials say the infection trend has been declining due to expanding awareness programmes. HIV tests are available at various local health posts, while confirmatory testing is conducted at Bheri Hospital, where infected individuals also receive free medication.
Banke had reported 80 cases last fiscal year and 101 cases in FY 2080/81 (2023–24).
