KATHMANDU, APRIL 21

Banke District Administration Office (DAO) has declared a seven-day lockdown in Nepalgunj Sub-Metropolitan City from today midnight till the midnight of Baisakh 15 (April 28).

With a rapid increase of coronavirus infection in the district, a meeting of the District Coronavirus Control and Management Centre (DCCMC) held on Tuesday had recommended lockdown in the district or partial lockdown in high-risk areas.

According to the DAO, there are 735 active cases in the district which has severely strained the health facilities with a huge flow of Covid-19 patients.

A notice issued by the district administration states that it has banned all activities in the sub-metropolis except emergency services and vehicles. It has also banned the operation of banks and financial institutions during the lockdown period.

The plying of vehicles, operation of shops and other activities, except for essential services, have also been banned.

However, services related to health, sanitation management, gas, petroleum products, vegetables, groceries, milk products, pharmacies, ATMs, public construction works, prescheduled exams, airport, and vehicles used in these activities will be allowed to operate.

Furthermore, shops of daily consumption products will only be allowed to operate from 6:00 am to 9:00 am daily.

Meanwhile ambulances, funeral vehicles, fire engines, government vehicles, diplomatic vehicles, long-distance vehicles, those transporting goods, vehicles ferrying construction materials, vehicles used by the personnel deployed in emergency services, those carrying permits will be allowed to ply with relevant identification.
