Beni Bazaar at high risk of floods

Pokhara, September 13

Floods in Kaligandaki and Raghuganga rivers have damaged human settlements in Ghyasikharka and Kharibot of Myagdi in Raghuganga Rural Municipality.

According to Chief District Officer Liladhar Adhikari, floods have caused damage to an under-construction health post, school and a local club in Ghyasikharka. Besides, the floods are also said to have put the district headquarters Beni Bazaar and Piple Bazaar area of Raghuganga at risk.

Similarly, Beni-Jomsom road has been obstructed due to the swollen rivers, and according to the CDO, personnel of the Nepali Army and Armed Police Force have been mobilised to open the road.

Further, Adhikari informed that the water level in the rivers had decreased in the evening. “No casualty has been recorded due to floods in the rivers so far and though the water flow had come down by the evening, people on the riverfront were told to be alert,” said the CDO, adding the floods had encroached around 100 metres of the retaining wall built to save Beni Bazaar from possible floods.

The flooded rivers have also caused minor damage to physical structures in Thasand Rural Municipality and places such as Ghansa and Lete areas on the confluence of Myagdi and Mustang.
