District Administration Office, Ramechhap, declared Bethan of Sunapati Rural Municipality-4 a riot-hit area today.

A meeting of District Security Committee today decided to declare Bethan a riot-hit area considering the possible clash at a mass meet organised by the left alliance at Bethan’s Dahu tomorrow.

In a riot-hit declared area, more than four persons cannot meet. The left alliance had postponed the mass election rally for tomorrow after disgruntled cadres of the left alliance obstructed the mass meet scheduled to be held at the site earlier.

Ramechhap CDO Dilip Prasad Lamichhane said the security committee had decided to declare Bethan a riot-hit area keeping in mind the possible clash between left alliance cadres and disgruntled cadres of the same alliance. The left alliance has made the mass meet a matter of pride.

Inspector Raj Kumar Thapa said the left alliance had mobilised its cadres massively making tomorrow’s mass meet a prestige issue. “The area was declared riot-hit after we got information that both sides were preparing for a clash,” Inspector Thapa added.
