Bhattarai asked to take over UCPN-Maoist

Kathmandu, September 21

As many as 14 top Madhesi leaders of Unified CPN-Maoist today urged senior leaders of the party to take the lead in accusing Chairman Pushpa Kamal Dahal of surrendering to the NC and CPN-UML.

Condemning Dahal’s statements, Madhesi leaders, including Ram Chandra Jha, Prabhu Sah, Ram Kumar Sharma, Mahendra Paswan, Biswonath Sah, Ram Rijhan Yadav and Ghanashyam Yadav, among others, have urged former Baburam Bhattarai to take the lead in the party.

Following meetings with Bhattarai and another senior leader Narayan Kaji Shrestha, Ram Kumar Sharma said both Bhattarai and Shrestha were serious about the continued bloodshed in the Tarai.

“Bhattarai has promised to take the lead while Shrestha was also positive about our proposal,” Sharma said.

He further said Dahal has been trying to lure Madhesi and Tharu leaders by promising to make them ministers in the new government.

Sharma, who has already resigned from party’s central committee, said Dahal has even succeeded UML Chair Oli in giving statements against Tarai-Madhes.

He said Maoist Madhesi leaders would wait for few days for the senior leaders and then move ahead themselves if they failed to take the lead of the party to emancipate the deprived communities as the Maoist party’s only goal was to fight for the downtrodden.
