KATHMANDU, JUNE 9

Bhimdutta Municipality has announced a ban on the collection and extraction of river-based materials from rivers and rivulets within its jurisdiction.

The prohibition will come into effect from mid-June, aligning with the municipality's environmental conservation policy.

According to Mahesh Bahadur Bam, Chief Administrative Officer of the municipality, the restriction is in accordance with the Sand, Gravel, and Stone Extraction, Sale, and Management Guidelines 2077 (First Amendment 2079), which prohibits such activities from the first day of Ashad (mid-June) to the end of Bhadra (mid-September) each year.

"Based on this legal provision, the extraction and collection of river-based materials will be strictly prohibited during this period," he said, warning that strict action will be taken against violators.

Despite the seasonal restriction, the illegal extraction of river materials continues in the Mahakali River and various rivulets of the Chure region within the municipality.
